Developmental Assessments in Early Childhood Education
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are an initiative designed to create relevant knowledge and skills necessary for success as a fully-functioning member of society in adulthood. Standards are used to designate benchmarks of achievement in education, and CCSS have become a major tool in revising Pre-kindergarten curriculum. Many updated state standards also reflect research-based, time-tested strategies for developing high-quality, developmentally appropriate, effective curriculum. For more information on common core standards and what they mean for Pre-K, along with NAEYC's position on curriculum, assessment, and program evaluation, read CCEI's January newsletter entitled Early Childhood Developmental Assessments.
