The Flu and Early Childcare
For most young and middle-aged adults, the flu is a serious annoyance, but not a life threatening condition. This is not true for people over 65. And it's not true for young children, either! The flu can wreak havoc on a small body. Over 20,000 children under the age of 5 will be hospitalized this year with complications from influenza. Nearly 100 children died from it in the 2013-14 season. As a childcare provider, you cannot force any child to be vaccinated, but you can do a lot to educate and encourage parents to have their children vaccinated! Promoting vaccinations in your child care center is important not only for children's health and happiness but also for overall community health!
